چکیده
Cilional was introduced by Schulemann of Messrs. Bayer-Meister-Lucius, Germany, a few years ago. It belongs to the plasmochin series of preparations and has the composition di-alkylamino-alkyl-amino-oxy-quinoline. Its action on the gametocyte of Plasmodium falciparum was claimed to be as potent as that of plasmochin, in doses far less than, any that produced toxic symptoms. A total dose of 0.18 to 0.3 gramme (in daily doses of 0.06 gramme) proved sufficient to make the crescents disappear from the 'peripheral blood. Atebrin was also given at the same time

Antimalarial natural products: a review
Objective: Malaria is an infectious disease commonplace in tropical countries. For many years, major antimalarial drugs consisted of natural products, but since 1930s these drugs have been largely replaced with a series of synthetic drugs. This article tries to briefly indicate that some plants which previously were used to treat malaria, as a result of deficiencies of synthetic drugs, have rev...
متن کاملIntroducing New Antimalarial Analogues of Chloroquine and Amodiaquine: A Narrative Review
Antimalarial drugs with the 4-aminoquinoline scaffold such as the important drugs, chloroquine (CQ) and amodiaquine (AQ), have been used to prevent and treat malaria for many years. The importance of these drugs is related to their simple usage, high efficacy, affordability, and cost-effectiveness of their synthesis. In recent years, with the spread of parasite resistance to CQ and cross-resist...
متن کاملEffects of Cryptolepine, 2, 7, dibromocryptolepine and standard drugs on hemoglobin accumulation in cultured Malaria parasites
Cryptolepine is the major alkaloidal constituent of the West African climbing shrub Cryptolepis sanguinolenta, a species used in traditional medicine for the treatment of malaria and a number of other infectious diseases. Cryptolepine and a number of its synthetic analogues have been shown to have potent antiplasmodial activities using P. falciparum lactate dehydrogenase assay (PfLDH). Intraery...

Malaria is an acute and chronic disease caused by obligate intracellular protozoan parasites of the genus plasmodium, transmitted through the bite of female anopheles mosquitoes. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, currently malaria transmits in 104 countries and due to a failure in the fight against this disease, their control and elimination is difficult. The parasite res...
متن کاملCryptolepine and development of new antimalarial agents
Natural product-derived drugs exemplified by quinine, isolated from South American Cinchona species and artemisinin discovered in China are of immense importance for the treatment of malaria. Although malaria parasites resistant to artemisinin have not yet been found in malaria patients, the need for new antimalarial agents remains. The burden of malaria is heaviest in Africa where over a milli...
